Alene E. Endorf

Alene Emma Endorf was born November 20, 1914 to John and Martha (Schilke) Jarchow near Daykin, NE. She passed away March 10, 2015 at Gardenside LTC, Fairbury, NE.

Alene grew up in the Daykin area and attended grade school at District 35. She attended high school in Daykin, participated in class plays, choir and band. She graduated in the class of 1931.

Shortly after graduating high school, Alene went to work for Dr. H. H. Humphrey. His practice was located in Daykin and she aided in all types of situations, including delivering babies in homes in town and surrounding areas.

Alene was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Daykin, being baptized, confirmed and married (Fred Endorf – February 2, 1936) there. She belonged to choir and several church organizations.
Alene and Fred farmed in the Daykin area. She loved the outdoors, had a large garden, many flowers and helped with farm work and chores. She and Fred had two sons; Dean married Elaine Hohensee and Donn married Marilyn Spilker, who were also farmers.

Fred and Alene moved into the town of Daykin in 1974. They purchased her parents’ house which had been built by a family member years ago. Alene kept busy in her garden and worked at the Dinner Bell, a local restaurant.
Alene’s hobbies were gardening and flowers, quilting, other handwork and reading. She was a “master of ‘filet netting’,” a lost art. She was known as the “Flower Lady” in Daykin.

She is survived by her sons Dean (Elaine), Donn (Marilyn) Endorf, Grandchildren Bob (Trish) Endorf, Jolene Schnider, Joann (Grady) Cummings, Great Grandchildren Jenna (Matt) Sobotka, Randii (Jake) Byrd, Sydne Endorf, Drew Endorf, Max Cummings, Emily Schnider, & Zachary Dockens, Great-Great-Grandchildren Sophie and Blaze Sobotka, Andrew Byrd and Xander Endorf, sister Hazel Schmidt, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, Grandson David Endorf, her parents, brothers & wives Lawrence & Evelyn Jarchow, Wendell & Lorna Jarchow, brother-in-law Lawrence Schmidt, father-in-law & mother-in-law Henry & Mary Endorf, brothers-in-law & sisters-in law Henry & Edna Endorf, John & Bessie Endorf, Louis & Evelyn Endorf, Olga & Gus Orth, Elva & Leo Steinbrook, Nora & Bill Howe, Marie & Walter Peters, Irene & Duane Wolken, Alma and Hugo Harmsen.

Services will be Friday March 13, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin, NE with Pastor Paul Beyer officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Luther Cemetery at Daykin. Memorials are established to Immanuel Organ Fund or Daykin Rescue Unit. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
