Barbara "Bobby" J. Welch

Barbara “Bobby” Welch, 92 of Fairbury passed away September 13, 2019 at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury.  She was born January 21, 1927 to Walter & Effie (Abbott) Sturm in Fairbury.  Bobby was raised by her grandparents William and Ina Sturm after her mother's death in 1928.  She grew up and attended Fairbury Public School through the 11th grade. They then moved to Scituate, MA where she graduated High School.  She attended Fairbury Junior College in Fairbury for 1 year. She was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church in Fairbury.

She was united in marriage to LeRoy Welch on September 7, 1947. They celebrated 60+ years of marriage.

Bobby & LeRoy owned a grocery store for about 5 years and after that she went to work as a secretary at Fairbury High School for 15 years, before retiring in 1983.

Survivors are sons Bill (Laura) Welch of Fairbury and Jim (Pam) Welch of Omaha, 3 grandchildren Mike (Emily) Welch, Mark Welch and Taylor Welch (fiancee Ashley), 2 great grandchildren London & Finley Welch.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband LeRoy, brothers Robert, Merle, Darrell and Orland, sisters Arietta, Thelma, Darlene and Dorothy

Services will be Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Fairbury.  Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
