Barbara “Betty” Troxel 86, of North Platte, formerly of Fairbury, NE., died April 22, 2014 in North Platte, NE. Mrs. Troxel was born July 9, 1927 in Ipswich, England to Charles & Dora Isabella Bennett. She became a war bride when she married Kermit "Punk" Troxel on April 25, 1945 in the Church of England in Ipswich. After WWII Betty & Kermit returned to the United States where they settled on a farm in Endicott, NE. When she arrived in the US, she was unfamiliar with American style cooking. With help of other women in her farming community, she quickly came up to speed. Once she learned, she became known for her cooking, especially her pies. While in Endicott, Betty became a member of the Endicott Women.s Auxiliary & quilting clubs. Betty enjoyed poetry, opera, & science fiction movies. She also loved to sing along to Elvis Presley gospel music. In 2012, Betty was diagnosed with cancer & proclaimed, "I'll fight it until the end!" She fought a good, hard fight. She is survived by her children: Shirley Long, Loren Troxel, Sharon Bennett, Debora Wiedeman, & Denise Norgaard, 15 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, 2 Brothers: Derek Russell, & Donald. Preceded by Parents, Husband Kermit Son Maxwell, Brothers Raymond, Charles Patrick. Maxwell's ashes will be laid to rest with his mother.
Services will be Monday, April 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Endicott, NE. with Lana Likens officiating.
