Bernice J. Bauer

February 27, 1926 — July 22, 2021

Bernice Bauer was born February 27th, 1926 to Henry and Renste Itzen (Onnen). The home was northeast of Gilead, NE. The family moved to a rural home in 1928 about 10 miles southwest of Concordia, KS. She finished country grade school and graduated from Concordia High School in 1951. She then went to work for Lincoln Telephone Company until she transferred to Fairbury to become the bride of Ed Bauer. They lived in Fairbury at 162 1st Street for about 3 years until their first child Greg was born. At that time, they moved to the family farm in rural Hebron.

It was a wonderful life. Bernice enjoyed her garden which produced a plethora of fruits and vegetables which she canned. God was very good to her. He blessed her with an amazing family and many friends. She loved square dancing with her husband Ed, playing cards, vacations with family, and fellowship with the members of Ladies Aid and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Renste Itzen; her husband Ed Bauer; sisters Irene Husa and Loretta Spidalieri; sisters-in-law Barbara Itzen, Mary Itzen, and Florence Bauer; brothers-in-law Donald Bauer, Frank Husa, Thaine Maish, and John Spidalieri; and granddaughter Dorothy Jean Giles.

Bernice is survived by her son Greg of Hebron; her daughter Gloria of Omaha; her son Eric with wife Patty of Omaha; two grandchildren, Martin Giles of Lincoln, and Alexandria Lindgren with husband Jacob of Omaha; sister, Anna Maish of Concordia Kansas; and brother Donald Itzen of Fairbury.

Her body was donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for scientific study, and when complete, the ashes will be buried in Grace Lutheran Cemetery with her family present.
