Bernice Patricia (Freauf) Ebbers was born to Louis and Mary Freauf on July 25, 1926 and passed away September 1, 2016 at Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln, Ne. She just celebrated her 90th birthday with her family.
She was one of 10 children. Bernice was baptized on October 5, 1926, confirmed June 1, 1941 and was married to Earl Ebbers on March 19, 1955 all at Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Bernie attended Park, Evert and Lincoln High in Lincoln, Nebraska for education. As a child she enjoyed playing baseball with her seven brothers. In the spring of 1941 she signed up to Amos Coal Ball Team where she played every year until she married Earl Ebbers on March 19, 1955. They were city champions every year and in 1951, 52, 53 and 54 won the Nebraska State Championship. Playing ball was one of the things she truly loved in life.
After her marriage to Earl she became a farming wife. Working on the farm herself in crop production, beef cattle and horses. They farmed near Firth, Nebraska . Bernie took to farming like a fish to water. There was nothing in farming that she found she couldn't do. She especially liked cultivating.
In April of 1956 Bernie gave birth to their son Dan and in August of 1958 Barbara was born. That completed the family which included a girl Mary Patricia, nicknamed Duz, that she had May 20, 1946.
In 1967 the family move to a farm near Fairbury, Nebraska. Earl and Bernie farmed there and until they retired mainly due to ill health. Bernie enjoyed many hobbies include in crafting, quilting, making the grandchildren costumes, gardening, canning and making the best homemade pies.
Bernie is survived by daughter Barb Sasse and husband Kevin of Diller, son Dan Ebbers and wife Lauree of Hallam, son-in-law Roger Ebbers of Lincoln, seven grandchildren: Serena Aasen and husband Ed, Devin Ebbers and husband Johann Torres, Myndee Ebbers, Karter Sasse and wife Tara, Garrett Ebbers, Riley Sasse and wife Sonia and Elliot Sasse, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and sister Mary Lou and husband Stanley Louder of Bixby, Oklahoma. She was a very strong, caring and wise lady who will be missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Mary Freauf, husband Earl Ebbers, daughter Mary Pat Ebbers, sister Frances, and brothers Eldridge, Louis, Arnold, Rodrick, Milton, Major (Norman), and Eugene.
Services will be September 6, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Diller, NE, with Pastor Mark Liscom officiating. Memorials to Family’s Choice. Burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, Diller. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury in charge of arrangements.
