Bonnie L. Jarchow, 81, of Daykin passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury, Nebraska. Bonnie Lou Harris Jarchow was born on March 22, 1938 to Harold and Letha Staley Harris in Fairbury, Nebraska. She attended school at Fairbury Public Schools. During high school, she worked at Clint Chirnside’s Ice Cream Store. She graduated from Fairbury High School in May,1956. After high school, she worked at the Lincoln Telephone Company in Fairbury as a telephone operator until August 1959. She was baptized and confirmed in August 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Carl Mennicke. On August 30, 1959, she was united in marriage to Eugene “Jinx” Jarchow in Daykin, Nebraska at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Carl Mennicke. To this union three children were born: daughter, Becky Jo, and two sons, Gregory Jay and Todd Allen.
During the first five years of their marriage, Eugene and Bonnie lived on a farm west of Daykin, then in 1965 they moved to a farm northwest of Daykin. They raised their family and several types of livestock and grain for 30 + years. They were avid thoroughbred race horse fans and eventually owners, which lead to raising race horses on their farm. In July 1996, they moved to Daykin because of Eugene’s love and concern for his wife, Bonnie, to ease her life when he could no longer take care of her. Bonnie held several jobs including Farmland Foods in Crete, Nebraska, The Stable in Fairbury, Nebraska and the Country Store in Daykin, Nebraska. She worked for the Country Store several years as store manager until going part-time and then retiring in 2016. After her husband’s death, she enjoyed camping, fishing and casino trips with her many friends. She also was a very avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. In May 2019, Bonnie fell ill with her 3 rd diagnosis for cancer. She fought the good fight, always keeping an optimistic outlook on life.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Eugene; parents, Harold and Letha Harris; Sisters, Jeannie, Patricia and Shirley; father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Evelyn Jarchow; brothers-in-law, Sonny Bales, Harold Torbeck, Earl Poppe and Jack Jarchow.
Survivors include daughter, Becky Wiese, and her husband Duane of Filley, Nebraska; sons, Greg and his wife Rachelle of Deshler, Nebraska; Todd and his wife Nancy of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Mike and his wife Darlene of Lincoln, Nebraska; Grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer (Daniel), Justin (Lisa Wright), Amanda, Caleb (Fiancée, Haylee Shore), Jacinda, Gabrielle (Travis), and Ryanne; Great-grandchildren, Lucille, Vera, Ethan, Bodie, Evelyn, Colin, Arianna, Addison and Paityn.
Services will be Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Daykin, NE. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 6 – 8 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home. Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
