Brian LeRoy Starck, (Starcky, Bo) 42, of Fairbury, passed away September 11, 2014 at his home in rural Fairbury, surrounded by his family. Born, February 14, 1972 to Roger and Barbara (Churchill) Starck. He enjoyed continuing the farming legacy that his father had started and eating lunch that his mom (Barbie) cooked, at his parents most weekdays with family.
He graduated Fairbury Jr. Sr. High School in 1990 and Southeast Community College Beatrice with a degree in production Agriculture in 1992. Brian then returned to the family farm and began farming with his father in crop and swine production.
Brian was baptized in 1983 at the First Christian Church, Fairbury. Brian joined the First Presbyterian Church on March 31, 1991 and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher when his nieces were younger.
Brian was dedicated to community service and was involved in the Jefferson County Fair Board, Fairbury Rural Fire Department since 1994, Fairbury School Board, Fairbury Rotary, and his proudest accomplishment was being a part of the Nebraska LEAD program, class #26 where he met some of the states’ leading agriculture citizens. During his time in LEAD he was able to travel not only throughout the state, but to different areas of the United States and Internationally to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco to learn about agriculture practices abroad.
Brian’s farm was the location where Gov. Dave Heineman declared Jefferson County to be a Livestock Friendly County in 2009. Brian received the Jefferson County Agriculture Award as a 3rd Generation Farmer in 2013, as well as the Agribusiness Farmer of the year. This past year he also received the Fairbury Chamber-Community Service Award, the Dedication to service Award with the Fairbury School Board and the “I Made A Difference” Award from the Jefferson County Fair Board.
He enjoyed boating, camping, softball, spending time with family and friends, going on antiques tractor drives with his family, farming and cracking jokes because he always told his nieces, “I’m kind of a big deal!”
In September of 1996 Brian and Danielle Lines were united in marriage. To this union two children were born, Colton and Kacy Starck. Brian’s son Colton was someone who he looked up to. He enjoyed watching Colton in basketball, swim team and cross country, where Colton continues to improve, making his dad proud. His daughter Kacy was his pride and joy and had her daddy wrapped around her little finger. Whenever talking about her, he always smiled and would have tears in his eyes. Brian enjoyed watching Kacy perform in her dance recitals and playing softball and basketball. He worked so that he and his children could play hard!
His enjoyment in life was finding the love of his life, Teresa Swanson and her two boys Damian and Aidan. Brian enjoyed having Damian to work alongside of on the farm, laughing, and talking with him. Brian was also very proud of Damian’s decision to join the Army. Brian enjoyed Aidan’s love of dogs and a little boy who enjoyed the farm so very much with such curiosity.
Brian was so proud that his oldest niece Amanda had been working with him and that they were renting farm ground together and he was helping her to farm. He enjoyed having his niece Kayla helping on the farm and his talks with her and her calm way of analysis of a situation. He always joked with his youngest niece Madi and called her the “Under Achiever”. He told her how it was such an honor to qualify for State in high school and that that was always something he wished he could have attained.
