Bruce
Stanton
May 12, 1934 — Aug 8, 2026
Fairbury
Harold Bruce Stanton of Fairbury was born May 12, 1934, to Harold J. and Vera V. (Barnes) Stanton at the family home in Morrowville, Kansas. He passed away on August 8, 2026, at the age of 92.
Bruce attended school in Morrowville and learned the value of hard work early in life. Starting at nine years old, he spent the first of four pivotal summers working on Carl Nelson’s farm in Clifton, Kansas. Those early days in the fields instilled in him a deep respect for farming and a work ethic that guided him throughout his entire life.
In the following years, he and his brother, Robert, joined Stanton Hardware, the business started by their father and grandfather. He expanded the business to include both propane and fertilizer, with operations in both Kansas and Nebraska.
Bruce met Nyla Dewey during high school and after graduating in 1952, they were married on November 6, 1955. They spent their first two years of marriage in Morrowville and Bruce was then stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, for two years while serving in the army. Their son, Rick, was born there and the family returned to Morrowville and then moved to Fairbury in 1960 where two more children, Sondra and Todd, were born.
Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Nyla; his parents; brother Robert and his wife Alice; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Delbert and Barbara Dewey; Marvin and Judy Dewey; Jim and Donna Nutsch; nephew, Jim Stanton; niece, Debra Dewey; and special great nephew, Eric Stanton.
He is survived by sons Rick and Todd; daughter Sondra (David) Weeks and grandchildren, Lacey (Chris Peace), Connor and Sean Weeks.
Funeral services will be held August 17 at 2 pm at the Fairbury Methodist Church with a private family burial at the Fairbury Cemetery.
