Carl Henry August Goeking was born April 22, 1935, at Hebron, Nebraska. He was the fourth child to William F. H. Goeking and Louise M. (Aschbacher) Goeking. Carl passed away August 3, 2018, at his home in Fairbury, at the age of 83.
Carl lived on a farm southwest of Gilead, Nebraska, and then moved with his family to Fairbury, graduating from Fairbury High School in 1954.
Carl was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilead and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Fairbury. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Fairbury. He joined the National Guard in 1952, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a 58 year member of the Elks Club, and served over 20 years as a city and rural volunteer fireman. On August 30, 1964, Carl married Aldene Eisenhauer at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin. To this union two children were born, Julie and Ed.
Carl worked for the Rock Island Railroad in Fairbury, then Southeast Community College, and the Jefferson County Courthouse and Law Enforcement Center.
Carl had a fondness for motorcycles and owned two Harley Davidsons plus two racing bikes. He was a state champion in motocross scrambles and hill climb.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and taught his grandchildren the love of fishing. He also did a lot of deer hunting and related stories of his hunting trips to Colorado for elk and deer.
In his latter years, his most enjoyment came from helping his son-in-law, Galen, at the farm. He drove truck for harvesting, put up hay, and helped with planting. He loved to go to the elevators, meeting and talking with other farmers.
Carl was a friend to everyone with a kind heart and willingness to help. He never knew a stranger, because you “didn’t need to know someone’s name to talk to them.” He enjoyed coffee group and keeping everyone informed on the amount of rain received.
Carl is survived by his wife, Aldene; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Galen Roebke of Seward; Son and daughter-in-law Ed and Michelle Goeking of Fairbury; grandchildren Hannah and Nathan Roebke and Liam and Tatum Goeking; sisters-in-law, Sherrill Goeking and Sandra Gonzales; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents William and Louise Goeking; parents-in-law Edwin and Mildred Eisenhauer; brothers Willie and Fritz Goeking; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Al Johnson; brother-in-law Dale Eisenhauer; and sister-in-law Carol Eisenhauer.
