Carolyn Ann Maschman

Carolyn Ann Maschman, 84 years of age, of Daykin passed away at the Heritage Care Center, Thursday, December 7, 2023.  She was born on February 23, 1939 at Daykin, Nebraska to Vernan and Laura (Schwan) Brueggemann.    She was baptized on March 19, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Daykin.  She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Daykin, on May 17, 1953 and remained a lifelong member of St. John.  Carolyn graduated from Daykin High School on May 15, 1956.   On May 27, 1956, Carolyn married Elliot Maschman and to this union five children were born.

Carolyn owned and operated the Bar M Café in Daykin for many years.  After closing in 1986, she went to work at the Heritage Care Center, Fairbury.  She remained employed at the Heritage until her retirement, holding several different positions throughout the years.

Survivors include her daughters;  Anita (Douglas) Bartels of McCook; Wanda (Leon) Slama of Wilber; Juli (Donald) Durflinger of Alexandria and Joni (Timothy) Duis of Hanover, KS; grandchildren Eric Bartels, Emily (Jeremy) Young, Jeremy (Heather) Slama, Bradley (Janet) Slama, Shelly Boomgaarden (Curtis Cronk), Elaine (Michael) Juenemann, Susan (Joshua) Busselman, Crystal (Tony) Floyd, Kimberly (Daniel) Ring, Devon (Erin) Maschman, Nicholas (Brandie) Maschman, Samantha (Brandon) Thornburg, Kurtis (Michaela) Duis; great grandchildren Carter, Caila, Cole and Colin Young; Jackson Slama; Marie, Christopher and John Slama; Hayley Boomgaarden; Michaela, Sydney, Alyssa and Whitney Juenemann; Audrey, Gracie, Tucker and Tanner Busselman; Ariel and Erika Floyd; Dakota and Eleanor Maschman; Braelynn and Jayden Thornburg; Harper, Kendall and Avery Duis;  sisters Donna Zabel and Doris (Larry) Zoubek, brother Robert L. Brueggemann.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elliot, son Brock A. Maschman, grandson Nathan Kleine and brother in law Larry Zabel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in Daykin with interment at the St. John Lutheran Church cemetery.  Visitation with family greeting friends on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
