Betty Weber
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Ann Weber on September 14, 2025, at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE and husband Charles, “Kenny” Weber on March 26, 2016, at Independence Nursing Home in Lincoln, NE. They both were proud residents of Steele City, NE. and spent their married life there.
Betty was born on October 4, 1931, in Jefferson County. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being outside and going for long walks when she was able to. Her and Kenny always had the biggest and best produce from their garden and were always willing to share with family and friends. Betty was excellent at canning and had an impressive supply to get them through the winter months. Being at Heritage for 11 years, Betty considered many of the staff and residents her family and friends. She was a friendly face to many residents at Heritage, and they will miss her deeply.
She is survived by her brother Darrell Witt and wife Susan of Fairbury, and sisters Shirley Mathy and late husband Warren of Pickrell, NE, and Paula Grace and husband Tommy of Haddam KS.
She was preceded in death by her son Dennis Weber and parents Harvey & Emma Witt, sisters Lucille Kershaw, Marcene Henkel, and brothers Donald and Dale Witt.
Kenny Weber
Kenny was born May 4, 1923, in Jefferson County. He was proud to serve his country as a WWII veteran and some of his commemorative mementos have been given to the Fairbury Museum for display. He worked his whole life for the Union Pacific Railroad and was promoted to Bridge and Building foreman. It was hard work, but he shared many fond memories from those days with the Union Pacific. In his younger years he would participate in the Chez festival and Betty, and he were quite the dancers! Definitely an outdoorsman, as he spent many hours setting bank lines for catfish and fishing away the days at the Little Blue River. If not fishing, hunting for all kinds of critters was a favorite past time. He shared his love of gardening with Betty and together they successfully thrived with abundance of fruits and vegetables. He was preceded in death by son Dennis Weber, parents John & Mary Weber, sisters Alice Weber, Vera Brown, Ethel Kelly and brother Harry Weber.
Kenny & Betty are survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, and their children.
Services will be Monday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Chapel in Fairbury with Darlene Novotny officiating. Burial in the Fairbury Cemetery.
