Cloey A. Lopez

June 17, 1948 — February 25, 2021

Cloey (Candy) Ann Lopez was born on June 17, 1948 in Sidney, Nebraska.  She grew up in Fairbury, Nebraska and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1966.  She met her lifelong best friend, Paren (Renee) Sims, in Fairbury when she was 8 years old.  Their loving friendship lasted more than 6 decades and in her greatest hour of need, Renee was right there by her side, holding her hand.  Cloey had a passion for helping others, so she became a nurse, earning her LPN license in 1981 and her RN license in 1992.

Cloey passed away on February 25, 2021 at her daughters' home in Lincoln. The family is forever grateful to the Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska for their courageous attempt to save her life and the loving care she received while at their facility.

Cloey is survived by her Daughters, Tara Caye Hernandez of Lincoln, Nebraska and DeeAnn Briceno-Roybal (Melvin) of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Goddaughter Lurri Schoenrock (Brad) of Fairbury, Nebraska; Father Harold Kulhanek, Jr. of Fairbury, Nebraska; Sisters, Joyce James-Wood (Donnie) of Omaha, Nebraska and Billie Mohr of Fairbury, Nebraska; Brother, Kevin Kulhanek (Susan) of Lumberton, Texas; 9 Grandchildren: Crystal Perez (Ashley), Michael Briceno (Miquella), Taraen Taylor, Kristine Briceno-Roybal, Stefnee Briceno-Roybal, Leslee Briceno-Roybal, Faith Martinez, Kruz Schoenrock (Katie), and Brurria Baker (Brandon); 9 Great-Grandchildren: Felix, Xavier, Shi, Khaliah, Kain, Braegan, Kinley, Harper and Kella; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild, Zayden; Great Niece, Kianna McLain (Dalton); Granddog, Arya Grace; and Estranged Son, Tony Hernandez, Jr. (Joanna).

Cloey is rejoicing in Heaven with her loved ones that passed away before her including: Grandmother, Effie Eden; Mother, Esther Kulhanek; Brother, Harold Kulhanek III; Nephew, Kolby Kulhanek; Bonus Grandson, Colton Schoenrock; Soulmate Calvin Hudson; Daughter-in-law, Angelita Chavez; Brother-in-law Gary Mohr; Cousin Larry Joe Troxel; Rita, Eugene & Naomi Briceno; Princess, Olivia Rose Franco; and Furbabies, Bandit, Tessa Mae, Bella, Pepper, & Clifford.

Cloey will forever be remembered and is sadly missed.  Her memorial service and burial will be held on April 22, 2021 at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, Nebraska at 11:30 a.m.  There will be a luncheon in her honor following the service. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
