Corlyn K. Cerveny, a former rural Nebraska school teacher, homemaker, and wife of the late Joe Cerveny, a Fairbury city mail carrier for many years, passed away surrounded by her family on December 31, in Orlando, FL at the age of 82. Corlyn graduated from Reynolds High School in 1949 and survived polio which struck her and took the life of her older sister, Wanda. She married Joe Cerveny in 1954 and they were wed for 53 years. Corlyn served as a Fairbury election volunteer for a number of years.
Survivors include her three sons Alan and wife Ann Cerveny of Lincoln, NE, Randy and wife Niccole Cerveny of Tempe, AZ, and David and wife Melissa Cerveny of Orlando, FL, 8 grandchildren, Brandy and husband Ben Johnson of Holdrege, NE, Samantha and husband Jamie Tilson of Holdrege, NE, Steven Cerveny of Lincoln, NE,Laura Cerveny of Kansas City, MO, Nick Cerveny of Garden City, KS, Derrick and wife Amy Cerveny of Norfolk, VA, Brian Cerveny stationed with the Air Force in Germany and Jacy Cerveny of Orlando, FL, 6 great-grandchildren, Haley Tilson and Jacob Tilson of Holdrege, NE, Kara Cerveny of Columbus, NE, Jamie and Jackson of Norfolk, VA, and Brynleigh of Holdrege, NE.
Corlyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Kathleen DeFrain, her husband Joseph Cerveny, sister, Wanda, and infant sister Katie.
There will only be a graveside service. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery of rural Gilead, Saturday morning, January 10, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: http://www.alz.org. There will be no public viewing.
