Daniel Dee Swett was born to Dee and Marilyn (Grone) Swett September 21, 1957 in Fairbury, Nebraska. He passed away suddenly April 2, 2020 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.
He graduated school from Fairbury High School. He attended Southeast Community College in Fairbury, Nebraska. While there he met his first love Jill Katherine Lindley. They married September 1, 1979. To this union they had three children Christopher, Betsy and Jenny. During their time together they ran D & J Grocery & Meat Market in Steele City, Nebraska for several years. They lived south of Endicott until her passing. In 2011 he met his second love and only other woman who would put up with him Donna Sullivan. They enjoyed their life on the farm raising cattle, goats and chickens.
Daniel was a pug operator for 42 years at Endicott Clay Products. He served for 29 years in the Army National Guard until retiring in 2005 as a First Sargant. He was a volunteer firefighter for Steele City Fire Department and active member of the Steele City Presbyterian church serving many years as an elder. He was also involved in too many organizations to list.
Daniel was a devoted father and papa. He enjoyed farming, golfing, bowling, spending time with family, torturing grandkids, yelling at the Huskers playing and a terrible sweet tooth for chocolate. He always loved family vacations and hitting the Casino’s with Donna. He could never go anywhere without finding someone to talk to for hours.
He was preceded in death by wife Jill Swett and dad Dee Swett.
Survivors include long time significant other Donna Sullivan. One son Christopher (Michelle) Swett. Two Daughters Betsy Mick and Jenny (Michael) Newman. Grandchildren Donovan, Julie, Leigha, Makira and Jilliyah. Mother Marilyn Swett. Grand-dog Chloe. Brother Dennis Swett. Sisters Gayle Farber, Kay Schultz, Shari Swett and Michelle Doeschot. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan’s smart mouth comments and smirk will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
His children are offering a $100 reward to the first person to come forward with how he came to get the nickname Pickle.
Services will be Saturday, August 15, 2020 starting at 4:00 p.m. with fellowship to follow until 7:00 at the VFW in Fairbury. Face Masks are recommended.
