Hebron

Darrell Fredrich Fett was the son of Dora and Fred Fett. He was born at home September 18, 1934, on the farm near Reynolds, Nebraska, weighing 9 pounds 8 ounces. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1953 where he had played basketball and ran track.

He married Ila Shinn September 22, 1955. They celebrated their 70th anniversary and Darrell’s 91st birthday in September. Darrell and Ila were blessed with 5 children, Jeanne (Greg) Brym of Marana, Arizona, Debbie (Henry) Bruns of Salina, Kansas, Darrell (Jane) Fett of Hickman, Nebraska, Randy Fett of Shickley, Nebraska, and Laurie Pyles of Loveland, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Darrell initially farmed with his father. He then worked for the Rock Island Railroad and the Farmer’s Union Creamery. He then began his career of carpentry and construction. First working with his brother-in-law Everett Shinn and subsequently for Howell Lumber Company. In 1970 Darrell returned to farming with the purchase of 160 acres across from his parent’s farmstead. He continued his full-time carpentry work while farming. In 1975 Darrell and Ila purchased and moved to their current home. Darrell eventually formed Fett Construction with his son Darrell D. Darrell and Ila also raised hogs and then registered dogs. In later years, Darrell stayed busy maintaining the picturesque area around their farm.

Darrell was filled with a joyous spirit and positive attitude. He awoke each day with gratitude and found beauty everywhere. Darrell never met a stranger, had an infectious smile and everyone became his friend. He loved to share stories and laughter. He loved to travel and attend farm auctions where he visited with all of the attendees. He followed current events and sports, particularly his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers.

He was a spiritual man who contemplated ministry at the age of 15. His belief in our Lord and everlasting life comforted him throughout his life. He was a long-time member of Zion Countryside Church.

He died peacefully at his beloved farm surrounded by his loving family, November 15, 2025. He is survived by his wife, children and sister Arlene Ortgies. May he rest in peace.
