Dean Zweifel

Dean Loren Zweifel was born June 4, 1937 to Harry and Grace (Johnson) Zweifel. He grew up on the family farm west of Fairbury and attended school in the Fairbury system. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1955. Shortly after graduation, Dean went to work for Engels Aircraft, where he earned his Pilot’s License and Airplane Mechanic’s Certificate. He continued to work there until the business closed in 2004.

During these years, Dean also farmed, which he really enjoyed until he felt he was too old to continue. He then began working for Welsch’s Repair as a big truck mechanic until his health would no longer allow him to do so.

He married Cheryl Achtemeier on August 4, 1968 and to them one daughter, Carrie, was born. Dean lived on the family farm until his death on January 1, 2016.

Dean joined the Fairbury Rural Fire Department in 1977 and remained a member until his death. He was also a member of the Nebraska National Air Guard based out of Lincoln, Nebraska where he worked as a mechanic.

Dean is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Carrie of Fairbury, a sister Marian May of Chico, CA, brothers-in-law & wives Gary & Linda Achtemeier and Jerry and Shirley Achtemeier all of Fairbury and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury with Pastor Gail Cross officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
