Dennis Eugene Steele, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, 73, of Fairbury, Nebraska, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle on October 17, 2025.
Born on March 28, 1952 in Fairbury, Nebraska. Dennis was a man who always put his family first and never missed a game. His best days were spent outdoors. He could be found casting a line in a lake, in a deer blind, or walking in the field searching for birds. Dennis loved being a mentor to his kids, grandkids, and the youth of the area through coaching, hunter’s education, and mentor hunts. In retirement, he could be found at Crystal Springs in “his” spot, in his garden, making salsa, relish, and jalapeno poppers to share with family and friends. Dennis never knew a stranger and made all he met feel welcome and a part of the family. His stories and jokes are known by many and will forever live on. He worked as a carpenter and maintenance for the Fairbury Power Plant for over 20 years, providing for his family with dedication and pride.
Dennis is survived by his wife Carol of 52 years; children: Nate (Cori), Megan (Pat), Emily (Mason); grandchildren: Lucas, Berkleigh, Max, Brysen, Merrick, Torrin and baby McVey, on the way; and siblings: Ken (Sherry), Jim (Diane), Tim (Pam), Nancy (Todd), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his best “fur kid”, Toad.
