Donald Elmer Barber

Donald Elmer Barber was born to Robert L. Barber and Esther Malchow Barber on Dec. 24, 1942, on a farm near Fairbury, Ne. He passed away at Gardenside Care Center on Nov. 8, 2024, at the age of 81 years.

Don grew up on a farm near Fairbury. He attended country school and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1960. He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, graduating with a degree in Ag Econ.

Don returned to farm with his father and farmed his entire life.

On Aug. 24, 1968, he married Nancy Nedrow. To this union three children were born, Amy, Cindy and Joel.

Due to failing health he moved to Gardenside Care Center in Fairbury on Oct. 1, 2024.

Preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Ken Meeske and Kevin Cary.

He is survived by wife Nancy, children Amy Barber of Fairbury, Cindy and Kevin Cooper of Okinawa, Japan, and Joel and Bobbi Barber of Fairbury, grandchildren Nick Cooper and Danica of Kodiak, Alaska, Lindsey Cooper and Jack Cooper of Ft. Collins, Co, Kayden, Emmitt and Joslyn Barber of Fairbury, sisters Carolyn Meeske of Wichita, Ks, and Judy Cary of Austin, Tx.

Service will be March 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
