Donald Schoenrock passed away April 18, 2026, at JCH & L after declining health for the last couple of years. He was born to Walter and Frances Schoenrock on March 13, 1948. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ east of Gladstone.
When Don was 2 years old, he was diagnosed with polio and spent several weeks in a hospital in Lincoln. He attended grade school at Pleasant Valley Country School, district #40. He continued his education at Fairbury High School where he participated in FFA and graduated in 1966. He also attended Fairbury Jr College, graduating in 1968.
Don enjoyed farming and raising livestock. He spent the last 70 years raising cattle south of Fairbury. In 1983 he married Donna Poppinga. They built an earth home southeast of Fairbury, overlooking Rose Creek. Donna passed away from cancer in October of 1997.
In August 2019 he married Barb Ahrens. Together they enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife out the window and watching old westerns on TV. When Don’s health deteriorated, Barb took excellent loving care of him, allowing him to continue living at home. His brother Jim picked him up about every day and they drove around checking on the cows and the pastures. This gave Don great pleasure.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Donna.
He is survived by his wife Barb, brother Jim Schoenrock, sister Priscilla Blobaum and husband Tom, nephew Dan (Eve) Blobaum and their children Alex and Addison, niece Erin Blobaum, numerous cousins, neighbors and friends.
After passing away just days apart, Don and his brother, Jim, will be honored together in a joint celebration of life. Family will greet friends on Sunday, April 26th, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 27th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Countryside Church in Gladstone, with interment to follow at the Zion Countryside Cemetery.
