Donna Marie Drees

Donna Marie Drees, 88, of Daykin passed away March 26th, 2020, at her home.

Donna was born October 27, 1931, to Herbert and Alma (Jordening) Maschman on the family farm, southeast of Daykin.  She was christened Nov. 15th, 1931 at home by Rev. Brokering.

Donna went to school at District 54 and then attended Daykin High School where she graduated in 1949.

She was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed,  and later married Raymond Drees, on April 23, 1950.

To this union four daughters were born: Beth, Jan, Faye, and Jean.  They lived on the family farm until Raymond was drafted in 1952.

For a short time during the Korean War, she and Ray lived in California before returning to the family farm  where they continued living until moving to Daykin in 1992.

Donna kept busy raising her family and helping on the dairy farm.  She was active in her church group.  She enjoyed sewing for her daughters, cooking, and baking.  In later years she helped make many quilts for Lutheran World Relief.  She always had a positive attitude, a ready smile, and helping hand for anyone in need.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Ray; parents, Herbert and Alma Maschman; and three brothers, Gilbert, Elliot and Cecil.

Survivors include daughters Beth Rut and husband Bob of Hanover, Kansas; Jan Hogue and  husband Bill of Geneva, Ne; Faye Ericksen and husband Gregg of Holdrege, Ne.; and Jean Wurtz and husband Dan of Kearney, Ne.; sister Rheta and husband Gordon Henke of Prairie Village, KS.; sisters-in-law, Lillian Maschman, Carolyn Maschman and Fern Maschman; Grandchildren Aaron Rut (Lindsay), Amber DeCoursey, James Rut (Jaime), Jodi Meyer (Nathan), John Hogue (Lauren), Matthew Hogue, Grant Ericksen (Melissa), Becky Holbrook (Channing), and Logan Wurtz.  Great Grandchildren, Allie DeCoursey; Burklee, Hayden and Hudson Rut; Trevor, Travis, and Evelyn Meyer; Sophia and Gabe Hogue; Spencer Holbrook; Ansley Ericksen; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service in memory of Donna will be held on March 28th at St. John Lutheran Church, Daykin, NE.  Memorials will go to the family's choice.
