Donna Jean Mulkey

Donna Jean Lyree Schell Mulkey was born May 19, 1922, at Beatrice, NE to
Omar John Schell and Emma (Allen) Schell Warford. She began her elementary school years in the Beatrice area before moving to Endicott where she graduated from High School. She briefly attended Fairbury Jr. College where she met Philip Mulkey whom she married May 26, 1943. Two daughters joined their family, Mary Lynne, while Philip worked in Lincoln at the Goodyear Plant during WW II and Pamela arrived after they returned to Fairbury.
Donna worked in various stores as a sales clerk through the years-- a jewelry store, pharmacy, Montgomery Ward, and Sears. Throughout her life she was an active member of the Endicott Methodist Church.

During her retirement she joined the Lions Club, helped with the blood bank and served as treasurer of the Endicott Alumni Assn. Through the years she filled her free time with sewing and other hand work and enjoyed two special pets--a dog, Tiffany & later a cat, Libby. She will always be remembered for having a heart for her home. While being a good manager, she was a devoted mother, grandmother; and so enjoyed the great grandchildren as they came along. Donna moved from Fairbury in 2008 to Lincoln to be closer to family until her recent move to Milford.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Mary Lynne & Kimball Smith,
Omaha, Pamela & John Slama, Milford, Granddaughters Vanessa (Dan) Shipp, Joanie (Bill) Welsh, Kayla (Nate) Schaf, and Sarah Slama. Great Grandchildren, Oliver, Finnegan & Samuel Shipp and Nora Schaf. She leaves behind a beloved sister, Helen (Harv) Rossmiller of Buffalo Center, IA, along with other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday August 27, 2015 at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Chapel in Fairbury. Memorials to the Family’s Choice. Burial at the Fairbury Cemetery – Fairbury, NE. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
