Doris Morton

Doris K. Morton, age 90 of Fairbury, Nebraska died on March 21, 2008 in Fairbury at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 14 days. She was born on February 7, 1918 at Diller, Nebraska the daughter of Eugene H. and Hattie Sparks Diller.

She graduated from Fairbury High School with the Class of 1935. In her early days of employment, she worked with her father in his butcher shop. She then began working at the Hested’s store in Fairbury where she worked a variety of departments, and also clerked and was office secretary. On January 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Keith Morton. Doris was an active member of the Fairbury United Methodist Church where she especially enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Doris loved watching baseball games and auto races. She learned how to swim when she was 72 years young and went for her first and only motorcycle ride with her nephew at age 82.

Survivors include her 4 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 7 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Hattie Diller, husband Keith Morton, sons Robert Cole and Gary Cole, 4 sisters and 1 brother.

Services will be on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery.
