Doris E. Riggert

Doris Elaine (Shanek) Riggert, 94 died November 23, 2014 in Sumner Co. Care Center at Wellington, KS. She was born to Charles and Julie Shanek April 26, 1920 at Odell, NE.

She leaves to morn her passing, her brother Walter Shanek and wife Betty, their children, Jerry Shanek and Cheryl Laux, also niece Joane Jones of Beatrice who was a frequent visitor of her Aunt Doris.

Doris graduated from the Odell High School with the class of 1937. Normal training was taught in the Odell High School. Doris attended these classes and following graduation she taught three years in rural schools in the Odell area. While in high school Doris played ball with the Diller Girls Soft Ball Teach which she really enjoyed.
During the beginning of World War II, Doris, Mildred and Walter worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS. In later years, Doris lived in Dodge City, KS. Her husband, Henry Riggert was called into service in World War II and was stationed at the air force base in Dodge City where he worked for the Military Police. Doris and Henry married at Tucumcari, New Mexico on June 2, 1941. No children were born to this union.

After the war Doris and Henry decided to make their home in Doge City. Henry was a mechanic and car dealer. Doris worked in the office for Caves Grain Elevator. She loved her work as a bookkeeper. Some of her hobbies were dancing, going to car races, traveling and playing cards.

After her husband’s death in 1993, Doris lived in Dodge City for one year prior to a move to Beatrice to be near family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry, parents Charles and Julie, sister Mildred, brother-in-law Everet and nephew Daniel Spitsnogle. Doris leaves to morn her death a host of nieces and nephews, also relatives and friends.

Her services will be Friday November 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Odell, NE with Pastor Curt Magelky officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorials will go to the Odell Cemetery or Odell Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Odell Cemetery.
