Dwain Paul Compton

March 4, 1931 — October 21, 2024

Dwain was born on a farm west of Steele City, Nebraska on March 4, 1931 to Paul and Laura (Zubick) Compton. He attended rural school in the Endicott Nebraska School District for his first nine years before the family moved to Mahaska, Kansas. He graduated in 1948 and attended Fairbury Junior College for one year. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Active Reserve. He served as a Final Air Controller during the Korean Conflict at an auxiliary Naval Air Field at Atsugi, Japan.

Following his release from the Marines, he returned to the Mahaska and Reynolds, Nebraska area to farm and ranch. He served on several A.S.C.S. committees in Nebraska and Kansas. He is a Past Exalted Ruler of Fairbury Elks Lodge #1203, where he was a Lifetime Member. He presided as the Nebraska State Elks President in 1993. Dwain was a longtime member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury where he served as an Elder. He valued the relationships he built with his church family and enjoyed attending Thursday services at Cedarwood while living there.

Dwain was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers baseball fan, rarely missing a game on TV. He enjoyed following Nebraska athletics, especially football and volleyball. Dwain loved socializing and did not know a stranger. He looked forward to meals with his "table buddies" at the Senior Diner and later at Cedarwood. Dwain always had a warm smile, a twinkle in his eye and a kind word for anyone he encountered.

Dwain was preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Munoz, brother-in-law Tom Munoz and stepson Kevin Rose.

He is survived by niece Cindy Johnson and husband Roger of Topeka, KS and nephew Michael Munoz and wife LaDonna of Auburn, KS.
