Earl E. Moser

February 15, 1924 — April 5, 2014

Earl Ernst Moser passed away peacefully in his sleep, early Saturday morning on April 5, 2014.  He was born on February 15 th , 1924 in Hollenberg, Kansas, the only child of John and Clara Moser.

He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Diller, Nebraska.  He grew up on a farm and graduated from Hollenberg High School.

July of 1943 Earl began his service in the Army and was stationed in California, Colorado and Maryland.  He traveled overseas on the Queen Elizabeth to South Hampton, England. He then traveled by a channel boat to Le Harve, France.  Earl was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star.  He then traveled back to the United States on the Liberty Ship to New York.  He was discharged from duty at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas in July of 1946.

Earl married Esther Lucking on September 22, 1946 and to this union three children were born:  Michael, James and Sharon.

He worked for Punk Williams as an auto mechanic from 1946 to 1970.  At that time he purchased the business and owned/operated his family business as Moser Motor Company.  Earl enjoyed being an auto mechanic, helping his customers, which many became friends, and retired at the age of 70 years.  He continued working part-time for Gary Haddan until the year 2011.  Earl enjoyed many camping trips to Colorado and was an avid reader of Louis L’Amour novels.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and eldest son Michael.

Earl will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Esther; son, James; both of Fairbury; daughter, Sharon  of Lincoln and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be at Faith Lutheran Church on April 9, 2014 at 1:30 p.m with burial in the Fairbury Cemetery.  Memorials to St. Judes Children’s Hospital. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of the arrangements.
