Eavon Mae (Littrell) Zimmerman was born January 22, 1924 at Ragan, Nebraska to William and Effie L. Littrell. At 4 years of age they moved to Fairbury. Eavon attended school at Bower, Richland Center and District 78 where she graduated from 8th grade.
Eavon was baptized January 26, 1941 at the Baptist Church by Dr. George D. McClelland. She worked for the late Martin and Vina Bottger, Hesteds and Jerpes.
She was united in marriage to Richard R. Ransdell March 2, 1943. They moved to Leadville, CO until Richard was called into service. They moved back to Fairbury where Eavon lived and worked until Richard was discharged from the Navy. They then moved to California. The marriage dissolved in 1969.
Eavon worked as a waitress for many years until going to work for Thomas Organs as Assistant Foreman for 20 years until the plant closed and moved to Mexico. She then worked for Quentin Electronics as supervisor over parts department. When they closed their door, she decided to retire and moved back to Fairbury to be near her family.
She met Willie Zimmerman and they were united in marriage at the Baptist Church May 24, 1986. To that union she became stepmom to Debra Dewald and Douglas Zimmerman and grandmother to Korinne Zimmerman, Lee and Sarah DeWald, and in 1989 Riley Zimmerman was born.
Willie and Eavon lived on a farm East of Fairbury on the PWF for ten years until moving to town. They did a lot of traveling, spent their winters in Texas. They enjoyed going to all their grandchildren’s plays, baseball and soccer games and other school activities.
Willie’s health started to fail and on December 28, 2001 he passed away.
They both enjoyed many years with their little companion, Knucklehead. He always traveled wherever they went.
Eavon went on many bus trips with her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Effie Littrell, husband Willie, brother and sister-in-law Harold and Mildred Littrell, sister and brother-in-law Florence and Carl Eaton and sister and brother-in-law June and Jim Johnson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Eugene and Lucille Buller and niece Sharen Kay Upchurch.
Survivors are Debra and Douglas DeWald of Gretna, Douglas and JoAnn Zimmerman of Fairbury, Grandchildren Lee DeWald of Omaha, Sarah and Justin Feik of Omaha, Korinne Zimmerman of Lincoln and Riley Zimmerman of Fairbury; Great Grandchildren Landon Feik of Omaha, Dakkon, Pandora and Wyndham Priko all of Lincoln; half-brother Gary Littrell and wife Dodie of Arkansas; nieces, nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday November 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of the arrangements.
