Edward H. Kujath

July 21, 1930 — May 2, 2010

Edward Harold Kujath was born in Gladstone NE. on July 21st 1930. He was the son of Reinhold A. and Anna K. (Menssen) Kujath, one of seven children. He entered the Lords House on May 2nd 2010. Ed was baptized in Gladstone NE. and confirmed in Daykin NE. After graduating from Daykin High School in 1948 Ed continued his education at Fairbury Junior College. After graduation Ed spent two years in the US Army serving One year in Korea.

On December 6th 1953 Ed married Christa Elizabeth Heymann from Leipzig, Germany. Ed became a USDA meat inspector in Omaha NE. in 1956. After a 46 year career he retired from Roode Packing CO. of Fairbury NE. in 2002.

Ed was dedicated to his faith by serving on many Church councils and instrumental in starting two Churches. Ed (Eddy) touched thousands of lives through his community service. He has done this by serving his community for many years. Ed has worked with the Germanfest, served as Legion Post and American Legion Commander, member of VFW, President of the Fairbury Community Chest, American Kidney Foundation, President of Jeff Center, FYI JOOI Jr. Optimist Club, Scout Master for 28 years and ushered at the Nebraska home football games for 39 years, 4-H leader, member of Fairbury Chamber of Commerce, and Civil Defense Coordinator. For his work he has received two Fairbury community service awards.

One of his favorite passions was the Optimist International Club, serving as Club President, Lieutenant Governor and Governor of the Nebraska District. In addition Ed served on many committees since joining the Optimist in 1963. Another passion was serving as a Foreign Exchange Area Representative in which he hosted 20 students in his home and placed over 200 students in the area.

Ed has played such an important part, not only in his immediate family’s lives, but also in his extended family’s lives. Referred to as “the man with the heart of gold”.

Preceding Ed in Death were his parents, Reinhold and Anna Kujath; Brothers: Arnold Kujath, Henry Kujath and John Kujath; Sister: Esther Kujath; Brother Inlaw: Marvin Dux; Sister Inlaw: Betty Kujath; Nephew; Jerry Kujath.
Survivors include: Wife Christa Kujath; Sister: Gertrude Dux; Brother: Walter & Wife Bertha Kujath; Sister Inlaw: Martha Kujath.
Daughters: Mona & Husband Jim Haefner, Jan & Husband Steve Radcliff; Sons: Kim & Wife Nancy Kujath, Ken & Wife Ann Kujath; 8 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; 11 Nieces and Nephews and many more Great Nieces ad Nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury, with Pastor Richard Larson officiating. Burial in the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials are to Optimist International Foundation, Faith Lutheran Church or Family's Choice.
