Edwin Dwaine Schmidt passed away on November 29, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Beatrice, NE. Edwin was born on May 27, 1932, in Wahoo, NE, to Ernest and Mary (Henrichs) Schmidt.
He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Diller on April 4, 1946. He graduated from Diller High School in 1950 and then served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa during the Korean War.
Edwin was married to Faye Krebs on May 3, 1953, at the Hope Reform Church near Harbine. Edwin was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Diller until his death. He served on Church committees and helped with many projects with the property.
Edwin’s life revolved around his family and farming. He was still as active as he could be farming north of Diller with his sons. He loved to play cards and would enjoy a drive around the country to see what the other farmers were up to.
Edwin served on the Diller School Board, Diller Rural Fire Board, Diller Cemetery Board, and helped with the Diller Picnic parade and foodstand for many years.
Edwin is survived by his daughter Pam and husband Marty of Randolph; sons Ron and wife Jill of Geneva; Doug and wife Julie of Diller and Dennis of Beatrice; daughter-in-law Jean of Diller; and sister Marilyn Guenther of Beatrice. Edwin is also survived by 9 grandchildren; sister-in-law Phyllis and husband Rev. Dr. Delmar Wiemers of Diller; brother-in-law Orville and wife Dorothy Krebs of Wilsonville, OR; and sister-in-law Bethel Krebs of Carlisle, PA.
Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Faye (Krebs), son Don; granddaughter Marie Schmidt; parents Ernest and Mary (Henrichs); brothers and sisters-in-law Harlan Guenther, Lydia and Lester Mann, Clarence and Amanda Krebs, Viola and Loren Smith, Elmer Krebs, Elda and Elmer Sasse, and Mildred and Elmer Malchow.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Diller with Pastor Mark Liscom officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery at Diller. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
