Ella Alma Schafer

Ella Alma Henrietta Witte was born March 4, 1929 in Byron Nebraska to Herman and Katherine Huhner Witte.  Herman and Katherine Witte had 8 daughters; Anna, Hermine, Sophia, Frieda, Elsie, Irene, Ida and Ella.  Ella was the youngest.  She passed away September 25, 2024 at 95 years old after enduring many health issues over the years.

Ella was baptized March 17, 1929 at the Lutheran Church in Byron by Rev. R. Wagner.  Wlla was confirmed June 7, 1942 at Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler Nebraska by Rev. R.H. Schwerein.  Her memory verse was Hebrew 12:2.  She attended parochial school in Deshler.

Ella married Walter Schafer on October 14, 1949 in Hebron.  They made their home farming southeast of Hebron before moving to Fairbury later on in years after retiring.  They had two daughters.  Prior to her marriage she did some volunteer work at the hospital in Hebron and worked as a telephone operator in Hebron.  Ella enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and quilting.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Gilead, before moving to Fairbury and becoming a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Ella is survived by two daughters, Cathy Bulin (Ed) and Betty Schafer, as well as nieces and nephews.

Ella is preceded in death by her husband in January 2004, her mother and father, Herman and Katherine Huhner Witte.  Her mother-in-law and father-in-law; Henry and Mary Kleine Schafer, all seven sisters, two sister-in-laws Viola and Vera, all brother-in-laws and 13 nieces and nephews.

Services will be held October 2, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury Nebraska at 1:30 P.M.  Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near Gilead Nebraska.
