Ellen Ann Wegner was born February 26, 1937 in Laurel Nebraska at home to Orlin M. and Edna L. Wegner. In 1939 the family moved to Bloomfield Nebraska where she attended school, graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1954. Between her Jr. and Sr. years in high school and after graduating from high school, she worked at Flying J Girl Scout Ranch in the rocky mountains southwest of Denver, CO.
She attended Kearney State College graduating with a teaching degree in 1958. After graduating from college she taught home exonomics for 2 years at Nelight NE and 2 years at Battle Creek, IA. She moved to Norfolk, NE in 1963 and worked at Consumers Public Power Co. for approximately 2 years. She then obtained a job with the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 2003.
In her retirement she enjoyed making many types of jelly, baking cookies and going fishing with her brother in North Platte. She continued to reside in Lincoln until shortly before her passing.
Ellen A. Wegner passed away December 20, 2014 at Garden Side Care Center in Fairbury, NE.
She is survived by sister LaRae M. Vawser and husband Lowell of Fairbury, and brother Gary L. Wegner of North Platte, NE, and nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be Monday, April 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield, Nebraska with Pastor Jacob Bobby officiating. Memorials will go to the University of Nebraska, Kearney, or University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, for pediatric brain cancer research. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of the arrangements.
