Ellnora Mae Bush, was born December 17, 1917 at Turon, Kansas, the daughter of Johnie and Martha Williamson Jeffers. Mae died on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 14 days. Her first trip to Fairbury was in a covered wagon in 1919. She attended grade schools in Kansas and graduated high school in Fairbury in 1936. In September of 1938, she was married to James Swaney and one son Larry, was born to this union. Mae was owner of a rooming house in Fairbury and worked as a waitress for many years in Fairbury and a short time in Cheyenne, Wyoming. In March of 1945, she was married to Cleveland Bush and to this union, one son K. Alan was born. Her hobbies included oil painting, gardening, dolls, latch hook, crocheting, genealogy and playing cards. She was active in cub scouts and boy scouts. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and helping with Bible School at the Bethel Chapel in Fairbury. She was baptized and a member of the Fairbury Baptist Church. Her clubs and activities included American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, Jefferson County Art Guild, founding member of the VIP (visually impaired) group and the former Golden Corners group. She enjoyed the Senior Diner and their programs for several years. Survivors are Sons: K. Alan Bush & Wife Kim - Fairbury, NE., Robert Bush - Fairbury, NE., Daughters: Esther Sand - Elko, Nevada, Judy Troxel & Husband Gene & family, 12 Grandchildren: Kaitlin Bush - Fairbury, Shawn Sand & Family - Fairbury, Melissa Shelter - Sacremento, CA., Barbara Seefus, Becky Martin, Beth Bush, Brenda Bush & families, Randy Kraft & family - Lakin, KS., Jennifer Bruce & family, Diana Phillips & family, Annie Mae Swaney & family & Johnie Swaney all of Missouri, Nephews: Don Garrison - Washington State, Gary Garrison - McCool Junction, NE., Jack Garrison - Topeka, KS., Dan Garrison - Warsaw. MO.. Preceded by: Parents Johnie & Martha Jeffers, Husband Cleveland, Sister & Brother-in-law Doris & Vearl Garrison, Son Larry Swaney, Stepson Cleveland, & a Great Grandson Zachary Swaney. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robin Stoops officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery and memorials are to the Family’s Choice.
