Evelyn A. Colgrove of Odell, Nebraska, the daughter of Robert and Mary Vitosh Lisec was born on September 24, 1932 at Odell, Nebraska. She died on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Beatrice Community Hospital at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 14 days. Evelyn was raised on a farm south of Odell. She was baptized at the Christian Church in Odell and was a member of that church until it was torn down. She then transferred her membership to the Christian Church in Wymore. On December 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Wayne Colgrove by the Rev. E. E. Powell at the Christian Church in Blue Springs. To this union, four children were born.
Evelyn was very active in local clubs and events. She was an active member of the Odell Rebekahs Lodge #403 which involved herself and Wayne traveling to many lodge events across the United States and into Canada, a 4-H leader of the Odell Cookies, helped start the free blood pressure clinic in Odell, was a tour leader for the U.N. Pilgrimage for youth in 1965 (Wayne and Evelyn sent all their grandchildren on the U.N. youth trips), always raised a huge garden, butchered chickens, canned everything and had many special memories milking cows.
Her family was very important to her as she spent many hours on the phone keeping track of her family. She attended her grandchildren’s sports activities and music events no matter how far away. Evelyn loved to crochet, making a crocheted blanket for each great-grandchild and named wall hanging for each grandchild and also taught all her granddaughters the art of crocheting. Evelyn loved to cook and was especially fond of making French toast for the grandkid’s breakfasts, beef jerky and angel food cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays. Whatever the holiday or the size of the dinner, Evelyn prepared food for as few as 6 people all the way up to 40. She was always cooking and would feed anyone that would stop by - maybe with one of her special kolaches or cinnamon rolls.
