Faye was born on October 18, 1933, in Beatrice to Emil and Ella Engelman Krebs of Diller.
She was baptized at the Hope Reform Church near Harbine on November 26, 1933, by Rev. Henry Grieb and later confirmed on May 4, 1947, by Rev. Otto Pinckert. She graduated from Diller High School in 1951 and attended Fairbury Junior College. She taught school south of Diller for two years.
Faye was married to Edwin Schmidt on May 3, 1953, at the Hope Reform Church near Harbine. She joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Diller in 1954 and was an active member until her death. She served as Newscaster editor, on women’s groups and as a Sunday school teacher.
Faye’s life revolved around her large family. She and her twin sister, Phyllis, were the youngest of nine children. She was often found playing cards with family and friends, playing games with her grandkids or bowling the perfect game. All of the grandkids, from youngest to oldest, were taught the finer points of playing card games like rummy and golf. When Faye was around, a card game was sure to be started.
Faye was a hard working farm wife. Cooking, canning, gardening, flea markets, and making crafts with her sisters occupied her time. She also attended many school and Church events for her children and grandchildren as well as helping with 4-H.
Faye is survived by her husband, Edwin, of 58 years of Diller; daughter Pam and husband Marty of Randolph; sons Ron and wife Jill of Geneva, Doug and wife Julie of Diller and Dennis of Beatrice; and daughter-in-law Jean of Diller.
