Fern Maschman, 82, of Daykin passed away June 25, 2021. Fern Marie Maschman was born on November 26, 1938 to William and Tillie (Janssen) Hohbein on a farm northwest of Harbine, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Harbine. She attended school at Diller High School and graduated in 1956. After high school she worked for Lincoln Telephone Company with her best friend Bonnie from August of 56 to December of 58.
On December 21, 1958 she was united in marriage to Cecil Herbert Maschman at Zion Lutheran Church in Harbine. For the first two years of their marriage they lived in Beatrice. In April of 1960 they moved to the Home Place and took over farming and dairy. They raised their two boys and multiple grandchildren at the dairy. While helping run a dairy, Fern held multiple part time jobs including, Top Grade, Radio Shack, Lily’s Flowers and the Daykin Country Store. After her husband’s death, she enjoyed being with her grandkids and great grandkids, getting pedicures, gambling and traveling with her brother Marvin to visit brother Harvey in Oklahoma.
Fern is preceeded in death by her husband Cecil, daughter Debra, parents William and Tillie Hohbein, in-laws Herbert and Alma Maschman, sisters Arlene Hohbein and Beverly Boettcher, brother-in-laws Gilbert and Eliot Maschman, sister-in-law Donna (Ray) Drees.
She is survived by her sons Jim (Heather), Jerry (Teresa), grandchildren Tim (Virginia), Nick (Melissa), John (Paige), Heather (Fiance Emily), Samantha (Rob) Barrette, Christina (Colby) Krueger, step grandchildren Katie (Andrew) Honingford, Brooke (Brandon) Krum, and Austin Massa, great grandchildren Peyton Wood, Jerry Duke III, Miles and Cora Maschman, Cheyana Maschman, Aiden and Amelia Maschman, brothers Marvin Hohbein, Harvey and LaFaye Hohbein, sister-in-law Lillian Maschman, Carolyn Maschman, Rheta Gordon Hanke and brother-in-law Wesley Boettcher and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Daykin, NE. Public viewing Sunday from 1-8 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, NE. Interment in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery near Daykin. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
