Forrest Shum

September 1, 1915 — May 15, 2008

Forrest M. Shum was born Sept. 1,1915 at Greenleaf, Kansas to Charles and Lura Freeman Shum. He passed away on May 15, 2008 at Gardenside Long Term Care at the age of 92. He was baptized in Ash Creek Methodist Church South west of Washington, Kansas in the early 1930's. Forrest married Arva Douce in 1940 at Hope, Kansas. He was Sunday school superintendent in the Morrowville Methodist church for 5 1/2 years and was usher in the Methodist churches for 60 years. He was on the school board for several years. He was assistant herdsman at the Waikiki Dairy at Spokane, Washington.
Forrest had his own dairy farm untill 1974 when he and Arva moved to Fairbury. He was school custodian in Fairbury Central School for 5 1/2 years and Custodian at Fairbury United Methodist Church for 5 1/2 years. He was AARP Treasurer for 4 years, Senior Citizens President for 5 years, Vice President for 3 years and Treasurer for 8 years, and was Trustee of United Methodist Church.
Survivors include 2 daughters Anita Camill and her husband John of Phoenix, Arizona and Elaine Reinert of Alberquerque, New Mexico. One son, Lowell and his wife Barbara of Gold Canyon, Arizona. 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. One brother, Elvin Shum of Home City, Ks.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Karl Lent officiating. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery at Washington, Kansas.
