Galen J. Schneider

Galen J. Schneider, 74, of Fairbury, NE passed away June 9, 2019 at Bryan West in Lincoln.   Galen was born in Tecumseh, Nebraska on May 12, 1945 and was the oldest of six children born to Mervin & Elzada (Rippe) Schneider.  Galen grew up in Johnson, NE.  He was baptized at Martin Luther Church in Johnson and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.  He attended and graduated from Johnson High School in May of 1963.  Galen was proud of his country and served 4 years in the U.S. Airforce.  He was employed as a Maintenance Tech in a number of places, but primarily with 23 years at Endicott Clay Products.

He married Karen Torbeck on August 29, 1976 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Lincoln.  They made their home in Fairbury. Galen loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed church activities and time spent with family and friends.

Galen is survived by his wife Karen (Torbeck) Schneider, son Mike (Michelle) Konz, daughter Rhonda (Dick) Manthei, grandchildren Taber (Jackson) Cashion, Jeremy Manthei, Zachary Konz, Jenifer (Brent) Gloria, & Jewel Gonzalez, brother-in-law Kenneth Torbeck, siblings Linda (Kenny) Hug, Delta (Gordon) Budt, Eldonna (Wayne) Budt and Curtis (Pat) Schneider.  Galen was blessed with many great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mervin & Elzada (Rippe) Schneider, brother James Schneider, daughter Sharon Konz, sister-in-law Donna Torbeck and in-laws Erwin & Mathilda Torbeck.

Services will be Friday, June 14, 2019 at 11:00 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury with Pastor Glenn Meyer officiating.  The Family will greet friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8.  Memorials have been established to the Family’s Choice.  Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
