Gaylord Leroy Smith

Gaylord Leroy Smith, 99 of Fairbury, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, at Gardenside Nursing Home. He was born February 10, 1923, to Harold and Lucinda (Unger) Smith. He was baptized July 8, 1923, at Plymouth, NE by Pastor G. Bodie. On May 16, 1937, he was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church at Jansen, NE by Pastor Wilkens.

Gaylord was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed working with his brother Clarence and nephews Richard and Larry on the farm. He also fed hogs and cattle for many years.

Gaylord is survived by nieces Sharon (Jon) Dexter, Patti (Richard) Becker, Pam (Jim) Behrends and Mary Winkler; nephews, Randy (Linda) Smith, Jeff (Kathy) Smith, Gary (Mary) Smith, Larry (Sandy) Smith, Richard Smith, Ron (Deb) Smith, Darrell (Deb) Stamey.

Gaylord is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucinda Smith; sister, Bernice Stamey; brothers, Arthur, Dale and Clarence; nephew, Lowell Smith and niece, Joyce Ann Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury with Pastor Glen Emery. Interment will be at Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to Grace Lutheran Church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
