Genevieve Holtzen 87 of Fairbury passed away March 21, 2017 in Fairbury. She was born September 4, 1929 at Reynolds, NE., to William & Cena (Kubert) Hruska. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gilead, NE, on October 6, 1929 and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Fairbury, NE. Genevieve attended St. Michael's School through the eighth grade, graduating from Fairbury High School in 1947. After high school she worked at Brown McDonald Company in Fairbury. On March 28, 1948 Genevieve was united in marriage to Ralph D. Holtzen. To this union two children were born; a daughter Pamela, in May 1949 and a son Reginald, in August 1952. She became a member of the Lutheran Church in Gladstone, NE, in 1953. Genevieve was employed at Safeway Stores, then at Riley Ford Motor Company in Fairbury, NE, for thirteen years. She retired from there following a lengthy illness. As an active member of the church, Genevieve held many offices in the LWML and Ladies Aid at Grace Lutheran Church. She also belonged to several extension and social clubs, and did volunteer work. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, sisters Marjorie Hickox, Mary Maxine Foy and Mildred Coffendaffer and a grandson Brett Holtzen. Survivors are Daughter: Pamela & James Bower of Wichita, KS., Son: Reginald & Pat Holtzen of Urbandale, IA., Grandchildren: Tiffany Olguin, Chad Skelton, & Blake & Katy Holtzen, Great Grandson: Andrew Holtzen, Step Grandchildren: Tynisha & Raymond Ramirez, Kenny & Wendie Bower, & Tiffany & Justin Evans, 8 Step Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces & Nephews. Services will be at 10:00 am Friday March 24, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. Burial at Grace Lutheran Cemetery – Rural Gladstone, NE. Memorials to Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
