George O. Mitchell

February 16, 1930 — September 8, 2020

George Obe Mitchell went to his heavenly home on September 8, 2020.  George was born in Ralston, Oklahoma to James Rex & Martha Jane (Roberson) Mitchell on February 16, 1930. He was the 7 th of 10 children. He attended school in Blackburn, Oklahoma but quit in the 9 th grade to help support his family.

George joined the Army serving his country in the infantry as a Master Sargent in the Korean War for 3 years.  He was united in marriage on January 17, 1953 to Marcene Stearns.  They were blessed with one son, Terry.

George spent his life working in sales and meeting people.  He worked for Jewel T, was a milkman, later was co-owner of Blue Valley Cheese in Hebron, NE as their fieldman.  He was also the local Snap-On dealer in this area.  After he retired, he farmed with his brother.

He attended the Four-Square Church in Fairbury.  He always loved to talk about the Bible, his faith and his Great Maker.  “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder” was his favorite hymn.  He treated people like he wanted to be treated! He was a very giving and generous person, always thinking of others before himself.

George had a great love of hunting with his brothers and instilled the love of fishing in his son and grandsons.  He enjoyed doing yard work, tending his roses and flowers as well as his garden. He would always share his bounty with others to enjoy.  He loved to watch Christian Channels and Western Movies.

He was a man who was family centered.  He was a wonderful and caring husband.  He was a great father and mentor to his grandsons.  He was one to look up to and gave his love in return no matter what, as well as his opinions and advice whether you wanted to hear it or not.  George remained an Okie at heart, making his son and grandsons OU Fans.

He is survived by his wife Marcene of 67 years of marriage, son Terry (Angie) Mitchell, 2 grandsons Kelly (Tommi) Mitchell & Kegan (Dani) Mitchell, 3 beautiful great grandchildren that always made his eyes light up, Ibri & Isaac Mitchell & Koston Mitchell. He is also survived by one brother Mark Mitchell of Yale Oklahoma, brother & sister-in-laws Roger & Sandy Stearns, Brent & Mary Stearns & Lois Ferguson.

George requested no service with his wish to be cremated and to have his organs donated. He will be greatly missed.  Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of assisting the family during this time. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
