Gerald Eldon Pierce, 88 of Dorchester, formerly of Fairbury, passed away Wed, July 5, 2023 at his home. Jerry was born May 5, 1935 in Hastings, Ne to Clyde and Helen (Whitcomb) Pierce. He graduated in 1952 from Oxford, Ne High School where he competed in football, basketball and track as well as playing American Legion baseball. A class C all-state football player, Jerry walked on at Kearney State College where he continued his education for 2 years.
Jerry enlisted in the US Army in 1955, serving for 2 years with 1 year spent in Japan. He was very proud to be an Airborne Paratrooper with the 508th ARCT and the 101st Division Screaming Eagles. He married Gladys Hablitzel on February 5, 1959 in York, Ne. Jerry spent 38 years working for the Nebraska Dept. of Roads, surveying and inspecting construction of hundreds of highways and bridges in southeast Nebraska. He knew the best place in any little town to get a good hamburger. Jerry was an avid sports fan especially the Huskers and never missed attending his boys games and activities. He also loved to fish, ride horses and in his younger days coon hunt where he won numerous trophies with his dogs.
He is survived by his wife Gladys; sons, Charlie Pierce (Angie) of Milford, TJ Pierce of Lincoln and 5 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jim, and son Douglas.
Services will be Monday, July 10, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dorchester. Public Viewing will be Sunday from 2 – 8 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Memorials to the Dorchester American Legion. Burial in the Fairbury Cemetery with Military Rites by Fairbury VFW. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
