Gladys L. King, 85 of Fairbury, NE passed away March 7, 2021 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE. She was born October 9, 1935 at Gilead, NE to Henry and Esther (Harms) Egbarts. Gladys was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Gilead on October 20, 1935 by Rev. Marting. She was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Gilead on May 16, 1948 by Rev. Hofman.
She attended Gilead Public School through the eighth grade. She contacted polio in August of 1948 and graduated from Hebron High School in May of 1953. She was an attendant to the Sports Queen in February 1953.
Gladys was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Hebron. She married the late Ed King February 24, 1961 at Hebron and moved to Tulsa, OK where she worked with him at Media 360 doing the typesetting. She was an excellent typist.
She loved camping, crocheting and making cookies and candy to share with the neighbors. She also made her special baby blankets for numerous friends and family members.
She moved to Fairbury, NE in 1975 where she worked for Blue Valley Community Action and Fairbury Pipe and Supply as a secretary. She moved to Cedarwood Assisted Living in July of 2012 and Heritage Care Center in July of 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ed, son Sheldon, brother Wilber Egbarts, sister-in-laws Mary Egbarts & Jean Estep and brother-in-law Don Bowes.
She is survived by daughter Nancy (Tom) Stoddard of Wautoma, WI, stepsons Tom (Josie) King of Sand Springs, OK, and Dave (Ann) King of Tulsa, OK, granddaughters Heather (Chris) Wagle of Tulsa, OK, Bridget (Matt) Tweedy of Bellevue, NE, Maddie King of Portland, OR, Rachel Maloy and Stephanie Maloy of Lincoln, NE, great-grandsons Connor and Jackson, great-granddaughters Lily and Tessa, sister Delores Bowes of Willows, CA, brothers Rodney & Martin Egbarts both of Gilead, sister-in-law Laura Turnbull of Pawnee City and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be at a later date. Memorials have been established to Nebraska American Cancer Society or Grace Lutheran Church - Fairbury. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
