Gladys J. Pierce

Gladys (Hablitzel) Pierce, 88, of Crete, NE, formerly of Dorchester and Fairbury NE passed away Tuesday, April 23rd at The Gardens Assisted Living in Crete. She was born July 8, 1935, in York, NE, graduating from York High School with the class of 1953.

After high school Gladys took classes at Lincoln School of Commerce and was employed by Bankers Life in Lincoln.  She was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Pierce on February 5th, 1959. To this union 5 children were born, Douglas, Charles, twin infant girls and Tony James “TJ”. Jerry and Gladys moved to Fairbury in 1966 where they raised their family. Besides being a wife and mother, Gladys worked a variety of job, including waitress, office work at Fairbury Pipe and Supply, retail work at Gibson’s Discount Center and working for the Soil Conservation Service. Her husband, children and grandchildren were always her priority and greatest joy in her life.

Gladys is survived by sons Charlie (Angie) Pierce of Milford, NE, Tony James “TJ” Pierce of Lincoln, NE, 5 grandchildren Holly, Allan, Nicole, Elise & Andrew, great-grandchildren and brother Marvin (Connie) Hablitzel of Osceola, NE.

Gladys was preceded in death by her mother Grace Peters, father Joe DeWitt, husband Jerry Pierce, son Douglas Pierce, infant twin daughters, sister Merdith Schlegelmilch, brother David Peters and special aunt and uncle Beulah and Homer Collingham.

Cremation has taken place. A Graveside service will be held Monday, April 29, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials will go to United Women of Faith – Dorchester Methodist Church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.  www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
