Glenn Henry Ebbers was born September 22, 1927 on a farm 8 miles east of Daykin. He died on September 19, 2007 at his home at the age of 79. He was the youngest of six children born to Henry and Mary Ebbers. He attended country school near his home. He graduated in 1944 from Fairbury High School where he participated in basketball, track, FFA, and National Honor Society. Following high school, he worked on his father’s farm, then later began his own farm operation.
On March 5, 1950, he married Ardelle Stowers of Western. To this union, five children were born. Glenn and Ardelle were happily married for 57 years.
Glenn took over his parent’s family farm, farming land that has been in his family for over ninety years. He sold NC+ seed for nearly 50 years. He took great pride in his farming and actively worked on the farm until the day of his death.
He had many hobbies. He enjoyed attending Fairbury High School events to watch his children and grandchildren participate in football, basketball, volleyball, track, softball, and music. He rarely missed a home or away game and was always willing to spend extra time working with his grandchildren to help them become better athletes. He and Ardelle participated in many Cornhusker State Games and Senior Olympic Games where he would throw the discus, javelin, and shot-put, bowl, and sometimes play on a basketball team. He played in the Fairbury City League Volleyball and Basketball leagues, and still played last winter each week in Plymouth. He bowled on the Wednesday Night Men’s League and together with his wife, daughter and son-in-law on the Sunday Night Mixed League. He enjoyed watching nearly any sporting event including Husker athletics and USA and Olympic events. He also enjoyed hunting elk and deer and trapping in the winter.
He was an active member of the First Church of God in Fairbury, a member of the Grange Sorghum Growers, and Southeast Nebraska Corn Growers. In his spare time, he enjoyed writing poetry.
