Lupe Medina, 99, passed away June 6, 2019 with her family by her side in Fairbury, Ne.
A rosary will be held at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 7:00 p.m in Fairbury, Ne. The funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 11th at 10:30 a.m. in Fairbury, Ne.
She was born June 15, 1919, in Nebraska City to Inez and Candelaria (Gallardo) Oropeza. She was united in marriage to Joseph Medina and to that union 2 children were born.
Lupe loved working as a waitress at several local cafes including The Cozy Cafe, Specht’s Supper Club, and the Kettle and continued telling stories about her experiences and the joy she had serving customers. After her waitressing career ended, she worked part-time for Swingster Outlet Store until she retired. She was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Her life revolved around the church and her family. Her interests included bingo and getting to know people. She devoted much of her time and energy planning family gatherings and holidays. She loved preparing Sunday meals for her family and anyone else who would drop in.
Lupe is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Medina) Grubbs and son Michael (Joyce) Medina; Grandchildren, Monica (Bob) Hinrichs, Joe (Courtney) Grubbs, Michael (Abby) Grubbs, Jessica (Vance) Bartels, Bobbi (Dallas) Troutner, and Daniel Medina; 10 Great Grandchildren; 4 Great-Great Grandchildren; and half-sisters, Juanita (Medina) Fuentez, Christina (Medina) Florez, and Margaret Medina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Medina; Great Granddaughter, Krista Medina; 2 half-brothers, 4 half-sisters, 7 step-brothers, and 3 step-sisters.
