Harold "Hap" Wiegert

Harold “Hap” Christoph Wiegert of Fairbury, Nebraska died Saturday, September 28, at home. He was 71.
Harold was born December 3, 1941, in Fairbury, Nebraska, to Viola and Christoph Wiegert. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Daykin.

Harold attended country school at District 24 and Fairbury High School, graduating in 1959. After graduation he entered the National Guard.

On September 8, 1963, he married Barbara Alene Fall. The couple farmed north of Fairbury for 20 years. They had two children. Harold was an active member of the Nebraska Pork Producers Association and the Fairbury Rural Volunteer Fire Department. He worked for many years as a Pioneer Seed salesman, and he was active with the Little Blue NRD.

In 1984, Harold purchased Marv’s Liquor in Fairbury. He operated the business as Hap’s Liquor until 1990. In his later years, he worked at Stanton Farm Services and Endicott Clay Products.
On April 4, 2004, Harold married Mary Walker.

Harold liked to hunt and fish. He also had a green thumb, and he and Mary enjoyed gardening together. Harold loved food and was a master griller. He also played horseshoes with friends for many years and was an avid follower of Nebraska football. After retirement, he built a new shop on his acreage and spent countless hours at his workbench.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Travis (Ann) Wiegert and Darcie Bontje; grandson, Nicholas Bontje; stepchildren, Ronda (Bruce) Aken and Tina (Dave) Frost; stepgrandchildren, Bruce (Brooke) Aken Jr., Jake Aken, Hailey Frost, Hayden Frost and Madysin Frost; sister, Betty (Mike) Cacak; brothers, Ron (Roseann) Wiegert and Dale Wiegert; and nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, stepson Ron Walker, and son-in-law Paul Bontje.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, October 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury.
