Harold LaVern Wieters fell asleep in Jesus February 13, 2014. He was born to Henry and Hannah (Duis) Wieters March 18, 1926 at Odell Nebraska. He was baptized April 11, 1926 and confirmed on April 28, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church at Lanham, Ks. His confirmation verse was John 3:16.
He attended country school and helped with the farming. He was in the army during the Korean conflict, May 21, 1951 to May 21, 1953 and in reserves until April 4, 1957. He was married to Velora Meyer on May 11, 1952.
He returned to farming and was also employed at Adams welding until 1976; as a carpenter for Minge Construction till 1986; Lower Big Blue Natural Resource district until 1999. He was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Lanham, KS where he served on the church council. He was treasurer of the township board; a member of the American Legion and on the board of directors. Wilton was on the Odell Fire Board for 21 years.
He is survived by his wife, Velora; Daughter Sandra and husband Scott Drinkgern, Stepson; Ryan Drinkgern and fiancé Donna Shortle; 4 Granddaughters, Julie Doebele and husband Gene; Jenny Sump and husband Cody; Joni Koch and husband Dean; Jana Gorr and husband Brandon. 12 great-grandchildren, Paige, Riley, Macy, Philip and Colby Doebele; Landon, Morgan and Adelyn Sump; Bailee, Mason and Parker Gorr; Wyatt Koch. Sister-in-law Berniece Wieters and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Gary Dale; sisters; Henrietta and Helen Holle, brother; Richard; Brother-in-law Arlan; nieces and nephews.
Services were Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lanham, KS. with Reverend Donna Florio officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Local Food Pantry. Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell, NE was in charge of the arrangements.
