Harvey Roger Jurgena

Harvey Roger Jurgena of Fairbury, NE passed away on May 24, 2023 at the age of 87.  He was born and raised in Powell, NE by Pete and Edna Jurgena, graduating from Fairbury High School in 1953 where he played football.

Harvey met the love of his life, Sharon when he was 22.  It was love at first sight and they were married the following year on December 13, 1959, on Sharon’s 19th birthday.  To this union were born 3 children, Julie Sue, Kelly Roger and Holly Jill.

Harvey and Sharon lived in the country west of Fairbury for 8 years before moving their family to town in July of 1968.  Harvey worked for Rock Island Railroad for approximately 24 years and then worked for Reinke’s Irrigation in Deshler until his retirement in 2006.  During his career, Harvey also had a few other jobs where he made numerous friends and impacted many.  Harvey enjoyed time with his family and was an avid outdoorsman.  He could often be found hunting or fishing with his children and grandchildren.

Harvey was preceded in death by parents, Pete and Edna Jurgena, siblings Venetha, Vera, Verda, Orval and Darrel, son-in-law Roger, and grandson Jimmy.

Survivors are wife Sharon Jurgena of Fairbury, daughter Julie Markham of Fairbury, son Kelly Jurgena and wife Charlotte of Western Grove, AR, daughter Holly Hicok of Fairbury, grandchildren Cassie, Kiley, Megan, Kori, Amanda, Kari, Mark, Nick, Paris and great-grandchildren Jerik, Carter, Addison, Reed, Kylen, Kinley, Jace, Evie, Caleb, Hadley, Detavion, Brenden ,Ryan, Riley, William, Suri and Elaena, as well numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.

Services will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury on June 5, 2023, at 11am.  There will be a luncheon immediately after, at the church with interment to follow at Fairbury Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors on Sunday June 4th from 2pm-4pm at Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home.  Memorials to First United Presbyterian Church.  Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
