Hazel C. Schmidt

Hazel Caroline Schmidt, daughter of John & Martha (Schilke) Jarchow was born near Daykin on October 12, 1909.

She was baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Hazel confessed her baptismal faith in the rites of Confirmation April 29, 1923 by Pastor A. C. Gilker.

Hazel was joined in holy matrimony to Lawrence Schmidt on September 1, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Daykin by A. C. Gilker. God raised through this union two sons, Mark and Gale.
She graduated high school in Daykin in 1927. She played the organ for 25 years at Immanuel, member of Lutheran Women’s League and Never Idle Club.

Hazel and Lawrence moved from the farm to Fairbury in January 1967. Lawrence passed away in 1998 and she lived at Pinecrest and Cedarwood.

Preceding her were her husband Lawrence, two brothers, Lawrence and Wendell Jarchow, sister Alene Endorf and their spouses, daughter-in-law Lois Schmidt of Phoenix, AZ and great-granddaughter Cassandra Earhart of Nebraska City, NE.

Survivors are her sons, Mark (Merlene) Schmidt of Fairbury, NE and Gale Schmidt of Phoenix, AZ, seven grandchildren, Dell (Sandy) Schmidt of Fairbury, NE, Coleen (Lou) Primero of Lincoln, NE, Rojean (Tim) Earhart of Nebraska City, NE, Beth (Glen) Prezembel of Chicago, IL, Jennifer Schmidt of Chicago, IL, Dan (Thyra) Schmidt and Julie (Todd) Peapenburg all of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. Memorials will go the the Lutheran Hour. Burial in the Fairbury Cemetery. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
