Helen M. Adam

Helen Maria Caroline Adam was born on June 25, 1914, on the family farm near Odell, Nebraska, the daughter of Ernest Adam and his wife Sophia Riggert Adam. She received her gift of eternal life on Tuesday, June 12 while a patient at the Beatrice Manor. Helen was 97 years, 11 months, and 17 days old.

Helen was Baptized into the Christian faith on July 19, 1914 at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. H.F.C. Grupe. Her sponsors were Anna Klaus, Maria Riggert, and Caroline Adam.

She renewed her Baptismal Confession on July 19, 1914 when she was Confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran. The Pastor was the Rev. Dr. William Mahler.

Helen attended Trinity Lutheran School graduating from the 8th Grade.

During her life Helen served her Lord as a faithful, life-long member of Trinity. She was active in The Walther League and served as an officer in the League.

Helen worked with her brothers and sisters on the family farm. She enjoyed being outdoors working in the garden and tending her flowers. She made clothing for her nieces and nephews and enjoyed quilting for World Relief.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents: Ernest and Sophia; by her brothers: Alvin, Herbert, Victor, Ernest, Paul, and Raymond; by her sisters: Edna Thomsen and Hilda Niemann; by her sisters-in-law: Viola Adam, Olinda Adam, and Leona Adam; by her brothers-in-law: Meenke Thomsen and Walter Niemann; and by her nephews: Merlin Thomsen and Melvin Adam.

Helen is survived by her sister Velma Adam of Odell, Nebraska; and by her nieces, nephews, and her many friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday June 18, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church - Hanover, KS., with Pastor Rodney Fritz officiating. Burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery - Hanover, KS. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church. Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on all days at the funeral home in Odell.
