Helen A. Bernhard age 109 of Fairbury, NE., passed away on October 16, 2012 at Gardenside Long Term Care in Fairbury. She was born August 26, 1903 at Western, NE., the daughter of Frank and Bessie (Krajnik) Kucera.

She attended LPN school in Baltimore, Maryland and retired from the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota after a 23 year nursing career.

Survivors are: son, Carmon L. Wheatcraft of Fairbury, daughter-in-law Jean Wheatcraft of Crete, NE., grandson: Jeff Wheatcraft of West Covina, CA., granddaughters: Diane Rappl (husband, Tom), Lincoln, NE., Connie Brown (husband, Greg), Los Angeles, CA., Debra Misenhelter (husband, Terry), Four Seasons, MO.; great-grandchildren: Terre Rappl, Mollie Rappl, Marce Larson (husband, Scott), Lincoln, NE., Chris (wife, Melissa) Wahoo, NE., Jessica Thomas Guthrie (husband, Ben) London, England, Laura Misenhelter, Ozark, MO., Todd Misenhelter, Olathe, KS.; great-great grandchildren: Mayzee Rappl, Madeline Rappl, Elizabeth Rappl, JT Larson, Cade Larson and Shelbi Larson; sister-in-law, Irmi Kuchera, Kennewick, WA.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ralph Wheatcraft, second husband, Carl Bernhard, son, Erman L. Wheatcraft, daughter-in-law, Joan Wheatcraft, four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jansen, Nebraska with Pastor Charles Schmidt officiating. Family will greet friends at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury on Friday, October 19th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jansen.
